In 1969, 14 elite football players for the University of Wyoming were dismissed from the team and had their scholarships illegally terminated after asking to wear a black armband during a game against BYU to support a nationwide protest against the Mormon Church's policy of denying priesthood to African Americans. The incident forever labeled them as the Black 14.
These incredible athletes were forced to face off against an authoritarian and racist coach during the height of the civil rights movement. They had to confront societal issues of race, politics, and religion, all while trying to achieve their football dreams. Against all odds, they rose above adversity and turned tragedy into philanthropy.
The true story of the Black 14 has remained hidden for decades.
